This is gentleman is the Reverend William Auld, minister of Tollcross United Presbyterian Church in Glasgow from 1833 until his death on 1885. This image of him can be found on his gravestone in Tollcross Cemetery. Such portrait medallions often appeared on Victorian gravestones, but few remain in place as over the years many of them have been stolen.
