Hand bookbinder and conservator Adelene Koh has expanded her artistic repertoire to include sculpture which she creates using bookbinding techniques. Made with paper and fiber there's something about their elegant simplicity that keeps drawing the eye.

Au cimetire de Melaten, Cologne, la Mort ne se contente pas dattendre : elle surveille les visiteurs, faux en main et sablier lev.

Ce Sensenmann en grs a t sculpt par August Schmiemann en 1905 pour la tombe du ngociant Johann Mllemeister. Une reprsentation sombre, thtrale et devenue lun des monuments les plus clbres du cimetire.

Le sablier rappelle que le temps passe. La faux vite manifestement toute ambigut.

Die Skulptur Nae Day Sae Dark in der High Street von Perth, Schottland, wurde vom Bildhauer David Annand geschaffen. Sie zeigt zwei bronzene Figuren, die einen grossen Metallring halten, in dessen Innerem das gleichnamige Gedicht von William Soutar eingraviert ist. Das Werk verbindet lokale Literatur mit moderner Kunst und symbolisiert den Gegensatz von Hoffnung und Dunkelheit, der im Gedicht thematisiert wird.

Mermaids: Monday W44Y5

Mermaids are a powerful myth--sometimes portrayed as benevolent, sometimes as dangerous. The danger portrayal seems to be an equating of mermaids with the sirens of the Odyssey--the mythic half-woman creatures that sang beautiful songs that caused mariners to veer off course into dangerous waters. (Sirens were originally described/portrayed as half-women, half-bird, but not too much later the half-fish version seems to have appeared.) The mermaid seems to have been a powerful symbol for
