'The Tree That Never Grew' on Hunter Street in the East End of Glasgow. This sculpture was created in 2010 by Jennifer Grant based on the words of poem telling the story of Glasgow written by Ingrid Lees in 2004.

Spent the day at the Corning Museum of Glass (I was blown away, no pun intended, by just how extensive it is).
The two most novel pieces I saw were these.
One at 3 meters away looks like a mid-century modern fluffy cube/ottoman only to approach it and realize it's made of tiny pieces of broken glass.
The other was the recreation of a lynx.

Safe and Curious -
Being hold by mother nature

Day 07 of

I made this sculpture last year - and even though my last works for this workshop were quite different, for me this one shows another aspect of our relationship with nature, with our earth. A really tender one, which I also want to show in this context.

Since it's Movember, I thought I'd post this wonderfully moustachioed head from a corbel of a Gothic Townhouse on Westbourne Gardens in Glasgow. Despite the fact it was created in the 1870s, there's an air of 1930s Einstein about him!

Leander, Dying on the Shore of the Hellespont (1886) by Joris Geefs (Belgian sculptor, lived 1850-1933). Leander fell in love with Hero (a priestess of Aphrodite/Venus) and swam across the Hellespont, every night, to spend time with her.

Our next move was a train to Birmingham and a short flight back to the old country to visit family. No trip back to would be complete without our traditional visit to Hillsborough Forest . We saw big changes since our last visit, with interesting new installations to enjoy on the woodland trail around the lake. Great for the little ones, and big kids (like us) alike.

I've always been curious about the growth model developed so I thought I'd explore it a bit. Here is the model but with expansion governed by grey-scott reaction diffusion.

Just a little work in progress inspired by the Venus Girdle (Cestum Veneris), which is a ribbon-shaped comb jelly found in the Mediterranean Sea. I haven't figured out yet if I will be adding more to this one or letting it stand the way it is all nice and simple.

From the mid-1800s to the 1930s, Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka crafted thousands of glass models of flora and fauna in exquisite, scientific detail. Now on view at the Mystic Seaport Museum, a major exhibition of more than 40 of their remarkable specimens come to life.
