Here is a photo of the oven pumping.

Not as much to see here, but it was neat to see the overall color this made shift as it aged in and the mercury worked its way through the rainbow.

While it takes way longer, and is less efficient, there is no risk of the tube arcing- leading to irreversible tube death. So less exciting is good here :)

You can really see the effect while its on the aging table. The greens and yellow are all on the same tube, but that is just the argon, the brightness is the mercury (mostly its effect on the phosphors).

Gosh those Murano colors are nice. I wanna pull and coat some more tubes.

I probably should leave it in the oven overnight next time. I think the pump wasn't the greatest- it likes to snake like crazy -which looks really cool but is actually a sign of a not great pump.

We shall see how badly and how fast it stains up. I do like looking at the little rainbow doodle.

I made this little fellow and his grimoire shine in the dark.
My uv resin is not curing thought and it's gonna snow all week...

Tensegrity sculptures. 2/2

This was made from a wire coat hanger and string.

Tensegrity sculptures seem to break reality but some parts are fully supported with the strings always in tension.

Short video to give a look of the fine balance of this sculpture.

Tensegrity sculptures. 1/2

This was made from semicircles of spring steel, held in place with string and a shape suspended in the centre with polymer rigging line.

Tensegrity sculptures seem to break reality and are only 1 cut string from collapse.

Short video to give a look around the sculpture.

Simone Leigh. from Sovereignty, her 2022 Biennale USA entry.

There's a ton of writing on Leigh's work, but you just have to see it in person - in a room, with that straw and puka-shell massive work facing it, for example. Just get up close. She's unspeakably brilliant, subtle, so incisive without any words at all. Every part of this piece moves me, from scale to glaze to form and references, to what is omitted. This to me is sculpture at its absolute best.

I sculpted this rounded blue octopus figurine using polymer clay and cocktail sticks/toothpicks and a craft knife. I originally posted it to Instagram on the 30th April 2016 and I've added watermarks where previously there weren't any.

Excuse me. This noble fellow, this exquisite masterpiece is titled Honk and Bonk.

Tintin is now in the public domain. I made this minimalistic voxel-style tribute somewhere around 2010 or so.

Checked out the fourth Bertil Herlow Svensson that was commissioned for Fiskstra 1970 but which as only recently been put on display here.

I'm sure moai are meant to last a long time, not sure this one will as it definitely looks craggier since the last time I photographed it.

Ah, it was vandalised back in 2015, no wonder. Glad to see it still there.

It's an enTIREly new year, and I love art installations for the public to enjoy. This was one of my favorites last year. Installed on Park Avenue in the 80s, the sculptures are by Betsabee Romero, a Mexican visual artist. She carved pre-Hispanic iconography into tractor tires. The works are meant to highlight the importance of migrants from Central and South America to US society
