It's said that when Brutus came from Troy to conquer Britain, the land was inhabited by giants. Two of these, Gog and Magog, were captured, chained to the doors of Brutus's palace & put to work as porters. London's Guildhall has long had statues of these two giants. Originally, they were made of wicker & paraded in civic processions, manipulated by men hidden inside. The wicker giants were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666 & replaced with two permanent figures, 14-feet tall, carved in 1708. These in turn were destroyed in the Blitz & by public demand were replaced with two new statues, carved by David Evans, in 1953.

Cactus singer update
I think I'm done modeling. Time to add some colors to the scene.
These sculptural elements on Pollokshields Library on the Southside of Glasgow are just brilliant, especially the humanoid face on the right.
Emily Young's carved head, somehow says something to me about the pain both of migraine & of troubles around mental health.

When I worked at the Wayne State University Press we published a book called Canvas Detroit (). In some cases the artworks in that book were ephemeral and it's the only record of them. One exception until now "Man in the City" by John Sauve. Now Lyon Township has taken it down after 13 years with no advance warning to the artist.

I was fortunate enough to meet John during the publishing process and see one of his installations up close. This makes me beyond angry. Sounds like there's now controversy of how the thing went down, but I do hope it goes back up. It was a very cool site when driving down I-96 to Lansing.
