Teresita Fernndez: Objects have a gravitas

Teresita Fernndez: Objects have a gravitas that affects your body. Thats the most powerful aspect of sculpture

The busts in the Vatican Museums, Rome, offer a fascinating glimpse into ancient art and history. I was immediately captivated. Each one seemed to whisper stories from long-forgotten times. I was especially impressed by the attention to detail as if the personalities behind the stone faces could be felt.

Vite ! L'exposition Zadkine (Muse Zadkine) se terminera dimanche 22 septembre !

Love this prehistoric-looking sculpture in Rouken Glen Park. It's a little bit hidden away, but it fits in perfectly with its surroundings.

3D modeling update

I knew this was going to happen I'm making everything inside MagicaCSG again. There goes my intention to move the model to Nomad Sculpt for finalizing. I'm just too addicted to the total flexibility and the puzzle element of SDF modeling.

A quiet day at the Hepworth Wakefield - a place of many curves and holes, and a very fine art gallery and museum.

3D modeling update

Still building shapes in MagicaCSG. Will finish the base mesh tomorrow, then refine in Nomad Sculpt.

More updates will follow

When new, it cost 350 for the standard model (the canvas roof - a must in Scotland - was extra), or around 50,000 in today's money. The 10/12 HP knocked over 3 hours off the Land's End to John O' Groats speed record and won the Scottish Automobile Club reliability trials, run between Glasgow to London.

I love this sculptural group above the entrance of the 1906 Argyll Motor Works in Alexandria, especially the car in the centre with the details picked out in silver. As far as I can work out, this is an Argyll 10/12 HP Tonneau, which was made at their previous works in Bridgeton in the East End of Glasgow in 1904.

3D modeling progress

Still constructing in . I want to have a solid base mesh before I head over to , as the non-destructive SDF nature of MagicaCSG allows for more adjustment flexibility.

Got to get out of my SDF comfort zone though, or I'll never learn Nomad Sculpt.

This sculpture contains a box of which rectangular and angular shapes are pushed out, pulled in and cut out. The lamp is lifted on 4 small feet on 2 different angles which give the illusion the lamp is "walking".

Started a new 3D modeling project

I'm going to use MagicaCSG to establish the base shapes, and port the result over to Nomad Sculpt on the iPad for detailing. I'm not familiar with Nomad yet, so this will be a first exploration.

More'll follow in this thread.

Art exhibit confronts gaps in Northern Irelands conflict transformation:

Rather than a scathing indictment of Northern Irelands negative peace, Khaled Barakehs The Shake is a poignant invitation from a fellow bridge builder to self-examine and join in the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Recent sculpture of my friend Angel. Happy with the sculpture but completely so excited with figuring out how to attach a sculpture to a stone base. I used a diamond bit on a drill but Id to find something that would make it quicker

Some material experiments with mycelium substrate growing in sawdust and flour, to make fungi sculptures from moulds.

I am using a proprietary mix from the Dutch company Kineco , although I know I can potentially make this myself with some spores and sawdust.

Will report back in about 7 days with whatever comes of these.

25 years ago this month (1999) and I recall photographing this installation 'Ambit' by Alison Wilding. It was located in the river below Wearmouth Bridge. The dynamic floating sculpture looked quite impressive when first unveiled but it was in a poor location and many people never actually saw it in it's lit-up state. Technical issues too led to problems and it's stay was short-lived.
