"Some call it ugly, Satanic, obscene: Understanding the statue at the former Lee Circle"
From the ar(t)chive
Illustration of a nightmare from the book De Avonden (The Evenings) by the Dutch writer Gerard Reve.
I made the illustration in the 2000s for a former magazine of the Dutch Railways (Nederlandse Spoorwegen), called Rails, in which the book was discussed.
From the ar(t)chiveI completed the digital I mentioned and then altered and composited it into a dithered low-res (256x136) banner for my website.
I am reasonably happy with it for now, but it didn't come out quite how I imagined it, so definitely not entirely happy.
I'll probably make another attempt at a banner art piece like this for my site again in the future. This will suffice for now.
In the meantime though, it was fun to do some digital sculpting and turn then turn it into retro pixel art!
The sculpted objects are all digitally hand-made, except for the text (whose shape I made with 3DCoat's built-in text tool). I also used some of Krita's basic image effects to help composite the final image.
Anyway though, goodnight everyone!

34/52 Night Walk
Starting into the week-end. Still summer fortunately, still those mild temperatures at night. Why not taking a walk in the city, looking for opportunities for some nice pictures.

Photo from the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Darling Harbour, Sydney, in 2011.
The statue is called 'Sleeping Boy Buddha'. I love the little mouse at his feet, and the smile on his face.
There is probably a whole layer of symbolism in this statue which I can't interpret, if anyone can add ideas I'd love to hear them.
I try to visit this garden whenever I'm in Sydney, it's very tranquil.
