Thank you for this day.

Your call to power is to slow down and reflect within. Gather the peace within yourself before you go out and act among the world. Establish this peace in your life and you will experience a whole new reality of the world that flows with you in every way possible, rather than against you. Alaric Hutchinson

Have a great weekend everyone!

A beautifully sculpted shipwright standing on the prow of a boat on the former Fairfield Shipyard on Govan Road in Glasgow. Created by James Pittendrigh MacGillvary, it's one of a pair of statues flanking the entrance of the 1890 office building designed by John Keppie. The other member of the pair is an engineer, and is just visible in the background.

Public art in Commonwealth Park, Canberra. Sculptures of brolgas. At the time these sculptures were in the garden but now I believe they have been relocated to a pond.

Birdcatchers by David Ralston above the entrance to new-build low rise housing on Queen Elizabeth Gardens in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. I realise these won't be to everyone's taste, but I really like them in a steampunk kind of way.

Thursday.
2022.

One of my fave in Chemainus.
I probably have at least 10 different photos of the same statue.

My art history theme for the month of August will sound a bit strange at first: Bible-themed Art That You Wouldnt Find At Hobby Lobby. So, today, lets look at Homeless Jesus, 2013, by Timothy Paul Schmalz (born 1959), bronze, 91 cm 61 cm 213 cm (36 in 24 in 84 in). The original sculpture was installed at Regis College in Toronto. Now over 50 copies of this statue have been installed at locations worldwide, including, but not limited to, Austin, Seattle, Baltimore, Chicago, Phoenix, Washington, DC, Dublin, London, Rome, and Vatican City. In some locations, the police have received several phone calls reporting a homeless person. In 2021, the statue in St. Louis was stolen. Recovered in pieces, the thief had tried to sell it for scrap metal. The artists website:

From The Daily Texan: The man lies on a bench on Brazos Street near Central Presbyterian Church.

At first glance, he looks like a real person passersby typically avert their eyes but the man is actually a bronze statue, an art piece called Homeless Jesus.

Pastor Joseph Moore said most people turn away from the figure until they realize theyre walking by a statue.

Theres this visible change on their face, Moore said. Within that change is room for people to look at one another differently, and we hope thats what the statue inspires.

Started a new MagicaCSG SDF modeling project

More will follow in this thread, as usual.

'Artic' is from series of luminaries in which parts of an old pressure washer were repurposed. Here the white shade is from the motor housing.
I like to use it as a floor lamp to give warm light in corners of a room.

Painting, sculpture, architecture, literature and music all once were Olympic categories but the medals have been stricken from the official national medal counts.

Shahzia Sikander: My was beheaded. Heres why Im not fixing it. In an unexpected way, the artwork Witness has lived up to its name.

"At 3 a.m. on July 8, a man with a hammer decapitated an 18-foot sculpture of a woman at the University of Houston. I made this sculpture, and I called it Witness as an allegory of the power or rather the lack of power that are accorded within the justice system.

In an unexpected way, Witness has lived up to its name.

As the artist who created the work, I have chosen not to repair it. I want to leave it beheaded, for all to see. The work is now a witness to the fissures in our country."
