Sculpture de Edmond Lvque : Nymphe

Showcasing sculpture from around the world.

Finally finished this scratch built mech sculpture. Started this around 4 months ago and just worked on it when I had time to here and there. It's made from little cut up pieces of thrift store toys, epoxy putty, modeling styrene sheet/tube/rod, and other bits and bobs.

Pretty happy with how he turned out and excited to start on a new one. I'll post some work in progress photos in the thread.

Now that the table is less chaotic and the dread beast holiday season has ran off into the background, I finally got the chance to show off Buddy :'D Now Buddy is made of paper mache with a coating of paper clay on top X3 I'm really happy with the results, especially since Buddy's mache core was crumbled up paper grocery bags and that has proven to be like tank levels of tough.

New at my Patreon... I wander through Triennial, a mega-exhibition which gives a kind of wonky snapshot of the world today - through big, colourful and sometimes weird art:

Wilhelm Lehmbruck -- Seated Youth (1916/17)

Stdel Museum, Frankfurt.

I first saw this piece forty years ago and remain as impressed now as I was then.

Besides its significance in art history, "Seated Youth" gives material form to an important aspect of our sensibility.

Very cool, beautiful sculptures and lighting. Too busy with kids to take time for good photos (and that is as it should be!). This was the only photo that turned out remotely alright, except for the poor minautaur's horns.

Highly reccomend, amazing exhibit!

Cool Art

Sculptures that commemorate some historical figure (whether or not the person deserves some kind of public recognition) can be rejected for various reasons: use of economic resources (that could be used for something more useful) and change in the public's perception of that person. A person admired in the present may be rejected in the future for various reasons. A good example of such a change in appreciation is that of Pushkin's sculptures in Ukraine.

Another problem is aesthetics. Many memorial sculptures are aesthetically very poor or, at the very least, "questionable".
