My stall today at the Wilson Street Makers Market in central Glasgow is opposite this rather wonderful decorative frieze. Titled Trial by Jury, it's a former court buildings. The building was designed by Clarke and Bell in 1842, while this sculpture was created by William Buchan in 1844.
Unintended Kelvingrove repeat
This was a chance catch in Kelvingrove a couple of years ago.
Enlarge on clickDuring a recent visit, I noticed the place was really deserted after the organ recital.
I havent been able to get there very often, and the visitor numbers seem to have fallen after activists have decided Kelvingrove is a nice soft target for them to get some free publicity, especially since its obvious the staff will not engage them (unless they escalate, and actually attack and vandalise exhibits).
Ive been there twice, fortunately both occasion when they were actually passive, and did nothing but show their messages. But, sadly, theyre not all like that.
Whatever the reason, the galleries were particularly quiet and deserted, despite it being a very nice day.
Without thinking, I took advantage of the empty space to grab a couple of pics of what has become one of my favourites.

No matter how good they claim rear LCDs are, its never immediately obvious when white area are overexposed or burnt out, even if youve tried to avoid it.
Although I could carry out some correction, the first pic really suffered in the peak white area, and lost a lot of detail.

Daphne Karstens combineert 'sculpture' en kostuumontwerp om experimentele, wearable sculptures (draagbare sculpturen), kostuums, performances en installaties te creren.
Haar werk richt zich op het experimenteren met materialen, vormen en structuren op en rond het lichaam. Ze werkt vaak met onconventionele materialen en combineert de specifieke eigenschappen daarvan met diverse vormen en structuren. Ze wil de grenzen en mogelijkheden van kostuums en wearable sculptures verkennen en opnieuw definiren, en laten zien wat er mogelijk is wanneer kostuums worden benaderd als meer dan slechts een kledingstuk.
Othered Bodies
In haar residentie zal Daphne werken aan een beeldend onderzoek 'Othered Bodies', dat de bestaande orde kritisch bekijkt. Sara Ahmeds Queer Phenomenology dient als vertrekpunt voor de creatie van wearable sculptures die een eigen narratief dragen. In lichamelijke en beeldende dialogen onderzoeken we wat jezelf orinteren eigenlijk betekent. Performers smelten samen met wearable sculptures op en om het lijf, en creren nieuwe (extra menselijke) beweging. Als body assemblages laten ze zien dat het lichaam niet enkelvoudig is maar steeds een momentane samenstelling - en daarmee representatie - van diverse systemen. Systemen met normen en grenzen die in Othered Bodies worden blootgelegd door een kanteling van perspectief.
Deze open sharing (work in progress) sluit een tweeweekse artist in residence van wearable sculpture artist Daphne Karstens af, in samenwerking met team:

Devant Het Steen, Anvers, la statue de Lange Wapper reprsente un gant du folklore flamand dominant deux ivrognes effrays.
La composition, avec les jambes cartes du gant et le regard trs bas des deux hommes, produit toutefois un effet visuel pour le moins quivoque.
