The allegorical figure of Art by David Watson Stevenson on the Saracen Fountain in Alexandra Park in the East End of Glasgow. The rendering of the folds of the clothing on this figure is just superb. This fountain was created by Walter Macfarlane's Saracen Foundry for the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park, and was only moved to its current location in 1914.

The wax models of the Josephinum in Vienna are incredibly detailed, and weirdly glamorised. Created in the 18th century, sculptor Clemente Susini was influenced by religious conceptions of the divine body, and created his models with classical sculpture in mind. Although eroticism likely played a part too.

SWANSEA: Worlds smallest solar cinema built from a chicken coop caravan heads to Monty Python statue unveiling

A solar-powered cinema built from an old caravan by a man from Swansea is heading to north Wales this weekend as part of one of the most Python-esque public events Wales has seen in years.

The , co-founded by Paul OConnor from Swansea, has been engaged to screen exclusive films made by Terry Jones alongside behind-the-scenes footage from his Monty Python days, as part of the unveiling of a bronze statue of Jones in Colwyn Bay on Saturday April 25.

Jones who died from dementia in January 2020 was born in Colwyn Bay and was, as his family put it, a proud Welshman in an accent straight out of Surrey. The statue, created by Llandudno sculptor Nick Elphick and funded entirely by donations from comedy fans around the world, depicts Jones as the Nude Organist from Monty Pythons Flying Circus nude apart from a flapping tie and wild hair, grinning as he strikes the classic pose.

Michael Palin said: Terry always insisted on doing his own stunts, and I think that sitting stark naked (apart from a tie) on Colwyn Bay promenade, in all weathers, is the ultimate tribute to the lengths he was always prepared to go to for comedy. I hope his wonderfully generous bottom will become an emblem of the town he loved so much.

The day is being billed as A Python on the Prom a Python-esque afternoon of silliness, with marauding Vikings, knights and their coconut-clopping squires, a recreation of the Spam Cafe set, and a Silly Olympics for fans to compete in. Visitors are encouraged to dress as anything Terry or Python, with official Monty Python merchandise on offer for the most imaginative costumes. The statue unveiling itself takes place at 3pm. Entry is free.

The statue, shown prior to its installation, shows Python great Terry Gilliam as the nude organist.

Steve Coogan, who worked with Jones on his film version of Wind in the Willows, said: Naked at the organ is both cheeky and a strangely profound expression of Terrys life-affirming anti-establishment anarchy.

The Sol Cinema is no ordinary picture house. It was created by upcycling a 1972 caravan that had been used to house chickens on a smallholding fitted out with tiered seating, LED lighting, a projector and surround sound, and running entirely on solar power. Its smartly-dressed usherettes are experienced street performers who add what co-founder Jo Furlong describes as a touch of bizarreness to the entire experience. The cinema has also made headlines over the years for its innovations including becoming .

OConnor said the Sol Cinema team were honoured to be involved in the event. Monty Python influenced the construction of the Sol Cinema, with our flying cherubs, doric pillars, plush seating, surround sound and performing usherettes, he said.

OConnor and his team have been touring the UK and Europe with the cinema since 2010, entertaining more than 100,000 people at festivals, schools, factories, farms and even a zoo. The BBC has previously described it as the worlds smallest solar-powered cinema. Previous celebrity visitors have included the Welsh Rugby squad, , and DJ Don Letts. The cinema has also among many other landmark events.

The statue was funded through the A Python on the Prom campaign, which hit its target within six months thanks to donations from comedy fans worldwide. It will be gifted to Conwy County Borough Council to sit permanently on the promenade, and will be unveiled by Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam Joness surviving Python colleagues.

Terry Joness daughter Sally said the family wanted the day to reflect her fathers eclectic interests. We want this celebration to reflect Dads eclectic interests, from his wonderful childrens books to his passion for medieval history, she said. We want everyone who has been a part of this campaign to join us and enjoy a really fun day.

Sol Cinema is currently taking bookings for 2026 and will be performing at Camp Bestival among other events. More details are available at .

The artworks we can't stop thinking about from the Adelaide Biennial

Xover0's brand new invention in the tableware space, The Petite Bouche Gummy Chalice, offers an alternative (or perhaps an addition) to specialized drinkware at the formal dining table. This ornate chalice style construct topped with a strikingly bold miniature throne presents the perfect platform for a bite sized confection.

For centuries humanity has been developing and refining the art of elegant tableware. Glassware in particular has exploded in its nuanced variations with each beverage requiring its own specific vessel shape aiding in its portioning, presentation, and enjoyment.

Today, an increasing number of people are seeking alternatives to alcohol in social settings. So we at Xover0 took it as our solemn design duty to provide a vessel for one such alternative one which integrates seamlessly into the formal table setting and elevates this alternative to the level and esteem that alcohol already holds.

The Petite Bouche Gummy Chalice does just that: providing a stately frame for an alcohol-free food pairing enhancing the experience of the meal and ambiance of the occasion, broadening the dinner service and making it more inclusive.
Crafted start to finish by artisans in rural Mississippi, the Petite Bouche Gummy Chalice is available in your choice of solid sterling silver or unlaquered brass.

The second piece uses a blue paint wash on wood as well, but this one will hang from the ceiling. From it, glass droplets will be suspended, catching the light and creating a little rainy moment in a corner of the room.

More droplets are on the way. This one is even less finished than the other, but it will get there.

Been a little quiet here, but Im still around and still making. Just not always embroidery.

Right now Im working on two weather-inspired pieces. This one will hold 1650 silvery disks, each suspended on its own nail, shifting with any air movement.

Its still in progress, but the base colours are in. With the moving disks, it feels much closer to a sculpture than a painting, so I'm counting it as a sculpture. The other one ('Rain') in my next post!

The light makes it look different than what it looks like on my desk in normal daylight, but I like the photo.

The Haas Brothers transform everyday objects into unsettling, hyper-realistic sculptures that challenge our perceptions and spark unexpected emotional responses.

In the early 2000s, these grotesques disappeared from the park and were eventually tracked down by the police to a garden in Castlemilk, just over the border in Glasgow, before being returned to their rightful home.

This rather brilliant grotesque is set into a wall in front of the former Superintendent's House in Overtoun Park in Rutherglen, just to the south of Glasgow.

It's one of three similar grotesques which are thought to have originally come from Overtoun House near Dumbarton. Lord Overtoun, who owned the house, donated the land on which Overtoun Park now stands to make up for the contamination from his White's Chemical Works.

Things that lurk outside the library at night.

This AM thus far:
boiler room overheating
bathroom lock broken
another b-room sink leaking and drain plugged (related)
another boiler (that I do not control) is full tilt and bleeding too much heat to my buildings, open all windows, fire up attic fans

All done. I never start the week with a game plan. Mondays are always like this.

Yet to do: replace 4 window screens, wire in a new ignition switch, sharpen blades, and change oil, on the same mower, run to post offices, rewire an outlet, and swap out two water filters on one building.

Personally: apply for art grant for an interactive biomech/scifi piece that allows participants to alter the outcome of a video presented as the biomech's memory.

I prefer the shit way more than real life.
