When you're in the Garnethill area of Glasgow, keep an eye out for the small bird sculptures on the top of the lamp posts. There's over 150 of them and they are part of an art installation called Chookie Burdies created by Shona Kinloch in 1993.

The sculptures are by James Alexander Ewing. At the bottom of the photo is a pediment with Justice on the centre surrounded by figures who bring commerce from all over the globe. Above this is Cybele, the goddess of all the things the Earth sustains, flanked by a pair of lions. On the very top, the golden figure of the Spirit of Light and Life looks out across the city.
Looking up at the rather wonderful and ornate cupola of Cooperative House on Morrison Street in Glasgow. Designed by Bruce and Hay, it was built in the 1890s.

Another fun sculpture from TurnPark! Like the houses for pixies, this one didn't have a label that I could find. I can't believe it's not a sculpture intended to be part of the collection, but I have no idea who the artist is. Nonetheless--what fun!Untitled sculpture (Wood, undated) by Unknown artistA stroll through the castle park of Zeist (2)Torso of a Young Girl I by Constantin Brncui

Salut Masto,
Trs heureuse

I've posted a couple of sculptures recently from TurnPark, a sculpture garden in Western Massachusetts. Today's image is from there, too, but it's a very fun little thing. I stumbled across this little group of ceramic houses on a rock shelf at TurnPark. They're so charming, feeling like something right out of a children's book--and there was no plaque, no infomation about the artist! Bu it's too fun not to share, so enjoy!Untitled ceramic houses for little people, undated, by unknown 02.2020T.A.E.s Book Review 500 Ceramic Sculptures: Contemporary Practice, Singular Works editor Suzanne J. E. Tourtillot
The greatest strength of 500 Ceramic Sculptures: Contemporary Practice, Singular Works lies in the paradox embedded within its title: five hundred works, each presented as singular. Rather than attempting to define contemporary ceramic sculpture through a single movement, philosophy, or aesthetic, editor Suzanne J. E. Tourtillot assembles a visual symposium in which hundreds of artists converse across cultures, techniques, and conceptual frameworks. The result is less a conventional surveyNew York sculptor spent $100,000 to make a Charlie Kirk statue no one wants to buy

Continuing my July theme of Freedom: by Timothy Schmalz (born 1969), Let the Oppressed Go Free, bronze, 22.5-feet long, 3.5-tons.
From EWTN News: The works title is taken from the Book of Isaiah, chapter 58. Is this not, rather, the fast that I choose: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke Setting free the oppressed, breaking off every yoke the prophet says in the sixth verse.
The sculpture is a representation of St. Bakhita lifting up the underground and letting the oppressed go free, the Canadian artist explained.
St. Bakhita is a Sudanese saint who was a slave in a previous century, he said, so with this artwork, you have a former slave from the previous century freeing the slaves of contemporary times.
Schmalz, who was speaking from Canada, said the figures represent the many faces of modern-day slavery, including victims of sex trafficking and organ trafficking, domestic slaves, child brides, child soldiers, and child beggars.
Mon bonhomm'oiseau prend forme.
