Love this sculpted walrus on the old Argyll Motor Works in Alexandria to the west of Glasgow, especially the slightly psychotic look on its face!

Another one of my favorite old works: 'Event Horizon' from 2012. Constructed on-site over 4.5 days on the ruins of Sigulda Castle in Sigulda, Latvia using the un-cut seating from their Opera Festival as the primary construction material.

I don't know which queen this is or if she's a real queen but I thought she looked very dramatic flanked with the lit windows and in a theatrical looking setting.,
I like the composition with odd numbers.
Again - have I gone too far with editing It looked good in lightroom but insta compresses.

On December 28, 2025, I happened across a very impressive snow sculpture of the head of a bearded king with a crown on Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn (NYC).

Unfortunately, I did not stop to take a photo (it was getting late and there were people gathered around). The next morning, I saw an article about the sculpture in the New York Post. I decided to walk back out that afternoon and see how the Snow King was doing. As you can see, he was a little worse for wear 20-22 hours after I saw him the first time (he looked like the newspaper photo linked in my article when I first saw him), but I thought the weathered snow king had its own dignity and charm (albeit he could have done without the dirt and car exhaust tarnish).

By African-American sculptor Beulah Ecton Woodard (1895-1955), "Maudelle," fired terra-cotta painted brown, ca. 1937-1938, 12x12 1/4x8 inches (approximately 305x310x202 mm), Museum of Art and Archaeology, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.

From Jill Renae Hicks in a review of the exhibit "Black Women in Art and the Stories They Tell at the University of Missouri Museum of Art and Archaeology: One of the most incandescent works in the exhibit is "Maudelle," the bust of Maudelle Weston, a black woman who once was a New York dancer. Maudelle modeled for many artists, including Beulah Ecton Woodard, who carefully fashioned the terra cotta sculpture. Woodard, skilled at bringing life to clay, seems to poke fun at the stiff, arched busts traditionally seen in society by creating one infused with dignity, joy and clear African roots, as exemplified by Maudelle's braided hair and exquisitely captured features.

The sculpture testifies to "Woodard's belief that accurate depiction of African costume and features could enhance African American pride," said Diana Burgess Fuller and Daniela Salvioni in the book "Art/Women/California, 1950-2000: Parallels and Intersections."
