journes du patrimoine : les dfenseurs des femmes

Jacques Verroust, La Vnus de Milo Louvre Musum, Paris, circa 1950

Showcasing sculpture from around the world. Rausch
On display is a half-relief, a plaster cast of clay, measuring 40x50 cm.
A huge eyeball takes up the entire surface, the veins have protruded thickly like roots. The iris is only a narrow rim around the huge pupil, which is the entrance to the hollow interior of the eye.
An embryo lies nestled in the eye, the head deformed, arms and legs underdeveloped. The belly is fat and torn open, showing, among other things, the heart that beats too big for this small body. The embryo's eyes are wide open, its gaze fixed and entranced in an outside world that can never be experienced.

Must admit, I do like this installation, called 'Couple' on the Northumberland Coast at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in North East England.
The bronze and steel sculpture was created by Sean Henry and installed 2007 on the town's breakwater.
Part of a 10 million refurbishment, I understand it is was the very first first permanent offshore sculpture in the UK.
The two figures, standing at around at 5 metres high, are said to be watching the sunrise, although when I took this photograph, they were simply watching a passing fishing boat.

I printed this 'The Thinker' scan with tree supports on and frankly, I think it came out saying something about our modern world too.

I think I might leave the supports on and put it up on the shelf.
