I used Blender's Dyntopo (dynamic topology) to sculpt the initial stages.

Sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro died on June 22, just one day before his 99th birthday. Two of his mesmerizing sculptures have become familiar to me over the years: One of his Tavola della Memoria in the foyer of the Staatstheater Darmstadt, and in front of it, on Georg-Bchner-Platz, a Grande Disco. He was best known for his bronze sculptures, but he also designed costumes and sets for the theater and operas.

Ha ha, I didn't know any of these VW Spider bugs were still around. If I recall correctly, some guy in Moundhouse, Nevada, turned three VW Bug bodies into big spiders back in the '80s. I remember seeing them in Moundhouse and one of them bouncing around on top of various buildings in Reno over the years. Kind of a blast-from-the-past to see that at least one is still around! After George "Dubya" Bush started a previous stupid war in the Middle East in 2003, I created a 3D anti-war cartoon.
The cartoon was published in an anti-war cartoon book, which was featured in the German Der Spiegel magazine.
Sculpting the tiki totem pole is almost done I think.
I'll add some more details tomorrow, maybe a few rocks on the slice of ground.
Then it's time for texturing and rendering.
