Holzlinge : le sanctuaire des compagnons de bois

Le mot vient de lallemand : Holz = bois et le suffixe -linge, qui suggre de petites choses, des personnages ou des cratures. On peut donc traduire Holzlinge par petits tres de bois ou figurines en bois. Parce que ma vie d'illustrateur tait apparemment trop paisible et mes doigts trop intacts, j'ai dcid qu'il me fallait un hobby plus dangereux. Il y a quelques annes, j'ai donc franchi la ligne : j'ai achet un arsenal de gouges infiniment tranchantes

Sculpture

Love this little sculpture on the Hugh MacDonald Memorial Drinking Fountain on Glasgow Green. I presume it's meant to be a lion's head, but it's quite anthropomorphic and always reminds me of Bert Lahr as the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. If I remember correctly, this same (or similar) sculpted waterspout appears on a number of Victorian drinking fountains around the city.

A beautifully sculpted figure of Saint Mungo over the entrance of the former Glasgow Savings Bank on Ingram Street in Glasgow. I love the way selective guilding has been used to add to its impact.
