Outstanding Art

Tanya Gomelskaya, born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1988, emigrated to the United States at age five. Art became her refuge amidst the challenges of learning a new language and adjusting to a new culture. She earned a BFA from SUNY Purchase University but initially paused her artistic journey to work as a dental assistant.

Spending a day at the MET feels like stepping through a hundred different worlds. You step inside, and it feels like history is rising up all around you.
One of the first pieces that stopped me in my tracks was Ugolino and His Sons a haunting sculpture inspired by Dantes Divine Comedy, showing the desperate moment before the tragedy strikes.
Just a few steps away, Perseus with the Head of Medusa stands victorious, holding the serpent-haired head like a trophy from another realm.
And then there are the moments you dont expect. In one quiet corner, I noticed a man sitting with his sketchbook, carefully tracing the lines of a statue. Surrounded by tourists and centuries of art, he was completely in his own zone and it made me slow down, too.
Thats what the MET does: it pulls you into its stories, big and small, whether youre staring at a masterpiece or just watching someone else fall in love with it. If you ever find yourself in New York, take your time for the MET youll need it.

Sculpture Showcase mood honestly

Hello mastodon.art folks! Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Miah, a potter from West Michigan. I've been doing ceramics for 11 months and recently started an apprenticeship with Peter Johnson (no relation).

My life up until last November has mostly revolved around tech, but the ceramics bug has bit me and now I spend most of my free time in the pottery studio honing my skills.

The mini citadel temple in Banteay Meanchey
Despite the name, the temple complex of Prasat Banteay Chhmar is one of the largest building works from the time of Jayavarman VII. This newly cleared covered walkway between the entrance building and the first temple to the west of the temple is an example of the building style of the era.
Including the great god kings face covering some of the towers in the central parts. Like what is done in Bayon State Temple in the centre of Angkor Thom.
Banteay Chhmar can be directly translated to Mini/small fortress. It is situated in Banteay Meanchey province, meaning The Fortress of Victory. This temple is situated far west in todays Cambodia, but it is situated along the Angkor Khmer Highway, the main road connecting the main cities in the Khmer Angkor Empire together. This temple was directly connected to Angkor Thom via this highway.
Banteay Chhmar, along with its many satellite shrines and dried out reservoir (Baray), comprises one of the most important and least understood archaeological complexes from Cambodia's Angkor period.
It has been under careful and extensive restoration for the last ten years. This has uncovered buildings in the style of the great kings other buildings. There are some detailed decorated friezes and pilasters, and outer walls with extensive bas-reliefs.
Prasat Banteay Chhmar is 3 hours drive out of Siem Reap. Suitable for a daytrip, but there are lodgings nearby. Sisophon town is under one hour away with more lodgings alternatives and small city offerings of food, drinks and shopping.

The octagonal baptismal font in the St. Julian's Chapel in Norwich, according to Wikipedia, is "a replacement for the original one, which was lost when the church was bombed. The current font was moved from the now redundant All Saints' Church, Norwich in 1977.

The gorgeous nameplate for J.J. Burnet's 1899 Atlantic Chambers on Hope Street, with Columbia on one side (representing America) and Britannia on the other (representing Britain).

Borrowed a sweet DSLR for these. I'm doing environmental shots later in the week.

A consciousness transfer vessel post Conflict era. Fully functional, comms are a bit fuzzy and will need plus work. Overall, considering the age and what they were working with, this is a doubleplus good accomplishment.

Un mini alpaga qui profite du beau temps

The amount of roman statues in the MET was a surprise I didnt see coming.
I didnt expect to find such a collection outside of Rome.
From a bronze Camillus to a wounded warrior, and even several veiled Venus each one frozen in time, carrying stories older than the city itself.
People wander around them, some in quiet awe, others lost in their screens, as if the past and present were walking side by side.

In the 2000s I made many monthly illustrations for an InfoSec column in the Dutch PC-Active magazine. This image depicted the need for backups.

Fragmented travelers by Bruno Catalano (10 Photos)

Embracing the Journey: Bruno Catalanos Vision

In the vast and versatile world of sculpture, few artists can make a claim to a style so unique that it becomes instantly recognizable. Bruno Catalano is one such artist. His bronze sculptures, characterized by their distinct fragmented form, have become a beacon of contemporary art, illuminating the themes of travel, migration, and journeying that are intrinsically woven into the human experience.
