En sapprochant, on dcouvre une incroyable bande dessine de pierre : des soldats romains sculpts avec un niveau de dtail impressionnant - armures, boucliers, visages, gestes tout raconte les campagnes militaires de lempereur.
Le relief senroule autour de la colonne sur plus de 100 mtres de frise, comme un film antique grav dans le marbre.
Presque 1 800 ans plus tard, on peut encore lire lhistoire scne par scne.

La Victoire de Samothrace (Nike) : environ 2 200 ans et toujours cette impression quelle vient datterrir en plein vent, sur la proue dun navire.
Au Louvre, elle trne en haut de lescalier Daru depuis 1883. Dcouverte en 1863 sur lle grecque de Samothrace, elle a t retrouve en fragments (sans tte ni bras) mais avec une prsence monumentale intacte.

"Pheoleen Gandaris (b. 1979) interest in art began during grade school at Zengeza in Chitungwiza, a township in Harare. While in school, Gandari was inspired to carve stone by Newman Chikuni (b. 1956), a senior artist at the Chitungwiza Arts Centre whose work has been featured at the National Gallery in Harare. Gandari began assisting Chikuni on the weekends and was soon creating his own sculpture. Gandari seeks to capture the emotion associated with daily life and events. His work appears in collections around the world, including UNESCO, where his sculpture is part of the United Nations Art Collection. In his sculpture, Kneeling Woman, Gandari skillfully leaves the hair unpolished to create a beautiful texture that contrasts with the bodys rich green sheen. Photos of Anselm Keifer's exhibition 'Finnegen's Wake' (White Cube 2023). Tough, gorgeously physical work, & especially enjoyable for the small works & (for me) wonderful chaos of the hang - plus clear evidence of a sense of humour (snice). I love (most) of his big paintings but they are queasy - in part / too much - gross excess (spectacle). These smaller works were very engaging.
