We discovered a few really interesting artists on our visit to Romania. These sculptures are by Dimitrie Paciurea on display at the National Museum of Art of Romania in Bucharest.

If you look at the previous post in this , you can see how much I changed since the last iteration. Concepting is a trajectory of experimentation, with a happy accident every now and then.
There it is, the final piece! No more for this one.
Monotropa uniflora II, made by request for a customer. As always, its much more beautiful in real life, with a lovely color gradient in the light that shows many more subtle hues than photos can capture. The flowers have a glossy sheen, as if covered in dewdrops. The base is covered in 'wet' twigs and mossy earth made out of felt.

I made a mask inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. I used papier mache for the base, and fabric for the jaw. The horns light up at night.
Love this lion's head on a corbel of the former Liberal Club building (and later rthe RSMAD) on Nelson Mandela Place in central Glasgow.

This was probably the closest Ill get to being around actual elephants for the foreseeable future, so Im grateful to have seen it. I highly recommend checking it out if it comes your way.

More photos from the Great Elephant Migration, a traveling exhibit that passed through NY last year. Im fond of the elephant in the 2nd pic, which may have been the chubbiest and happiest of them. All 100 sculptures were modeled on individual living elephants, so even if they werent real, we still felt a thrill of connection. More info on the project is in the alt text.
Started concepting a sci-fi war drone in SDF Modeler.
Live-Boolean SDF modeling is great for non-destructive experimenting. I already changed most shapes lots of times before reaching this form, and I'll undoubtedly change a lot more.

I paid a visit to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden in Austin, TX, yesterday.
About sixty works are on display in a pleasant garden setting. I enjoyed strolling around looking at the works, even though most of Charles Umlauf's sculpture is not to taste. No doubt he was a master of his craft, but for the most part his visual imagination strikes me as having been overly prone to sentimentality and conservative allegory, of the type seen in "Family" and "Torchbearers", shown on the page linked below.
The same page does show works that do appeal to me more, such as the classically inspired "Muses" and two works where the influence of modernism is more apparent, "Supplication" and "Madonna and Child".
What came as a surprise on my visit was an exhibition devoted to....
In the personification of is called Hypnos
He is the son of Nyx (Night) and Erebus (Darkness). And his twin brother Thanatos -- Death. Quite the family!
