The large sculptural butterfly and moth wings created by artist Rebecca Manson shimmer with colorful beauty, but also with impermanence and fragility. They are built with thousands of tiny hand-sculpted and richly colored glazed pieces of porcelain.
Without his influence, we wouldn't have some of my favourite works of modern public sculptures in Glasgow, including the hippos in Anderston (artist unknown), the Maryhill elephants (by Stan Bonnar), the Spirit of St Kentigern on the City of Glasgow College of Glasgow campus in Townhead (by Neil Livigston), and Chookie Burdies in Garnethill by Shona Kinloch.
I was sad to hear of the recent death of David Harding, the first town artist for the new town of Glen Rothes in Fife, the former head of Environmental Art at the Glasgow School of Art and the god-father of post-war public art in Scotland.

On sent la patience dans chaque bande, la tension dans chaque courbe et cette impression que la matire, dun coup, apprend respirer.
