The Burning, Bleeding, Breathing Art of Ana Mendieta

T.A.E.s Book Review The Figure in Clay: Contemporary Sculpting Techniques by Master Artists editor Suzanne J. E. Tourtillot

Few instructional art books successfully bridge the divide between technical manual and philosophical meditation. The Figure in Clay: Contemporary Sculpting Techniques by Master Artists accomplishes precisely that. Rather than presenting a single "correct" method for sculpting the human figure, editor Suzanne J. E. Tourtillot assembles nine accomplished ceramic sculptors whose individual practices reveal that technique is inseparable from artistic vision. The result is not merely a buddies.

very touching to see the retrospective exhibition of Ana Mendieta at Tate Modern. She had such a strong and unique artistic vision and her works remain very inspiring and influential. A life too short, and why

Rerooting

Waag, Thursday, September 3 at 07:30 PM GMT+2

Join us at Waag on September 3 for the Det Digit Art House show & tell. Discover the works Anna Musikhina and Werner van der Zwan created during their residency, at the intersection of technology and ecology.

During Rerooting, artists Anna Musikhina and Werner van der Zwan present their artistic research. They will discuss their experiments, creative processes, and show the works that emerged from it.

Rerooting is about finding new connections between technology, nature and the world around us. Invisible to the eye, countless signals, processes and connections exist between living beings and technology. Musikhina and Van der Zwan explores these invisible layers during their Det Digit Art House residency. Van der Zwan worked on a collaboration between fungi and mechanical sculptures. Musikhina explored radio frequency: an invisible layer around us. This layer has the ability to show us how humans, animals, and plants are connected to each other and their environment.

The artists drew inspiration from regenerative principles and ideas from permacomputing, among others. In this way, they developed their artwork in relation to the environment of the Det Digit Art House. This residency is a collaboration between Waag Futurelab and Det Digit Art House.

'Homo Memoriae', cool piece by Torben Klostergaard

Robo Doggo outside the Glasgow Science Centre. I love the way this Maggie's Art Trail Scottie fits with the futuristic and (I've always thought) slightly alien-looking architecture behind it. It was designed by Andy Craig Grant and is sponsored by TMS.

In the Massachusetts Berkshires, near the western border of the state, is a sculpture park called TurnPark. Formally TurnPark Art Space, this 16 acre combined sculpture park/exhibition space/outdoor performance venue was created in 2017 on the site of an old quarry. It's a remarkable place, and I urge you to go if you get the chance. We were there recently and were able to spend several hours. The piece I'm sharing today is located there, and I hope to share more in the near future. My

Ny vakt har stilt seg opp ved verkstedet mitt i Svartdal

The Ana Mendieta exhibition at the Tate Modern (London) is fabulous. Somehow I hadnt expected it to be.

I went because I was already at the Tate and left feeling filled with light. Thats a badly needed feeling the way things are in the world right now.

Ana Mendieta was a Cuban-American artist. She died in 1985.

Ive finally managed to turn an idea thats been close to my heart for a long time into reality: a coat hook featuring a fox bust design. Years ago I bought plain coat hooks specifically for this purpose.
The whole thing is solid and really sturdy. Attached to the wall with a screw, it can hold even heavy clothes.

Hmm, it almost looks like the fox is enjoying watching you get undressed >)

If I don't forget I will bring him to EF!
